The NEW Hands Up Blog

For those of you who read this blog and live in Orlando:

If you haven't heard by now, we're moving to Hands Up! @ Back Booth to Thursday Nights. Right now K2W is on a temporary hiatus, giving us time to revamp everything that is "Hands Up." One of our biggest changes is that our blog has moved to WordPress! From now on, http://www.handsuporlando.com links to the WordPress version of our blog, so if you have the blogspot version linked into a blog reader or RSS feed, now is the time to change over.

Check out the New Hands Up Blog.

Cool Shit: FL-909

So if you're bored on the internet and you want to try your hand at making beats, you might want to bookmark this website. A German(?) company named aM Laboratory created a Flash-based drum machine called the FL-909. It's a near exact virtual recreation of the Roland TR-909. If you don't know much about electronic instruments, the TR-909 is the quintessential drum machine of house music. This is the machine that started it all, way back in the early 80s. This song by from Daft Punk's Homework is a good example of what a 909 sounds like:

Daft Punk - Revolution 909

Don't get it confused with the TR-808, the most popular sequencer in the Hip-Hop industry. Remember this line from "The Way You Move?"

I know y'all runnin' that 808, can you feel that B-A-S-S. bass.

Anyway, if you want to know more about this kind of shit, feel free to click the links and read the wiki pages. When you're finished with your history lesson you can us the FL-909 and make some stoopit beats in your bedroom. Enjoy!

People READ this blog??

Yesterday I was told my friend Brita that she reads this blog. I've only known her for a week. This is great news to me. PEOPLE READ THIS SHIT! I'm inspired to say some silly shit and post a few tracks that I stole from various other blogs. Here goes!

First look at this video. This song is going to be HUGE in 2007:

Next, lets talk music. I'm a DJ and a blogger, so believe me when I say this: There are no new blogworthy tracks. Music's on the indie/electro front is pretty uninteresting right now. If you don't believe me, listen to this track from Bloc Party's newest album, Intimacy. Yes! New Bloc Party! Shittier than the last Bloc Party!

Bloc Party - Zepherus

Bloc Party has disappointed me too many times now, so I've moved on to other British bands with a black guy in them (i.e: Does It Offend You, Yeah?). Maybe I'd like B. Party more if they made music that sounds more like this:

ABC - How to Be a Millionaire

Tell me, Tell me!

Bangor, Maine

So who's up for moving to Bangor, Maine with me? Word is there's an American Apparel on every street and everyone has a Fixie (Serious Inquries Only, Please!)

Haaaa.

Haven't really been keeping up with the blogs lately but here's a few songs that I've had on repeat for the past few days. Enjoy

Yelle - Ce Jeu (Pornophonics Remix)
Pin Me Down - Cryptic (Phones Materialisation Mix)
Fake Blood - Mars (Original Mix)
The Wet Secrets - Secret March (Nik 7 RMX)
Benny Benassi - I Am Not Drunk (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

What the?

See more funny videos at Funny or Die

I have no words. People are fucked (or maybe I'm just a prude)

P.S. MSTRKFT's Essential Mix -- kind of old it's from May (yes a month is old in Banger Years) -- is REALLY really good.

P.S.S. The Crooker's Essential Mix aint too shabby either!

"Bad Boys II" is on USA...RIGHT NOW!

credit: The Cobra Snake

I've been busy as hell but here's a few songs I've had on repeat for the past couple of days:

Oh and the other day when I was bored I decided to look up "djs" on Wikipedia and I came across a "Notable Club Disc Jockeys" section. Needless to say, I couldn't believe what I didn't see when I read through this so-called "list" of "notable" "djs."

Where the hell is Kill to Win?!

I Hate the Things You Like: Jim Halpert

Dont get me wrong. The Office is a very funny TV show. Michael, Dwight, Andy, Creed, Stanley, and Kevin insight riotous laughter true to the mold of Seinfeld, or Lloyd Christmas hitting Harry Dunne in the back of the legs with a cane (Dumb and Dumber...). For you more indie kiddies, picturing something Zach Braff did in Garden State.

Back to my main point. I do NOT like Jim Halpert. He carries himself in a 'I'm not cool' sort of way in which he knows very well he is better then anyone else in the aforementioned office. His smirks at the camera say 'no one else could have thought of that aside from the great JIM'. Moreover, girls who like him do so because he is 'cute', but they cannot seem to distinguish between Jim and John (Krasinski).

His pranks are no more then pedestrian office shenanigans that he may or may not have found in a book from Borders entitled Office Pranks and You. His pursuit of Pam (who I don't really care for either) has since grown old and tiresome. I find myself wishing someone would maroon them on the island from Lost, or better yet Gilligan's so I no longer will witness their torrid bore affair. I hope next season Andy looses it, hospitalizes Jim ( NBC/ER crossover episodes?) and puts him out of my misery.

Thoughts? WTF is this, the English Patient?

WALE & WAYNE

Wale, the swaggerific DC rapper who doesn't talk about all the shit he has, but instead about other stuff (go figure) released a new mixtape a few weeks ago. "The Mixtape About Nothing", modeled after Seinfeld boasts tracks mixed by Nick Catchdubs. Each song is named 'The ___" like Seinfeld episodes, and features samples from the show, and Michael Richards being racist. It is a good mixtape, check out more over at Wale's blog, Elitaste.

You can catch him on the Rock The Bells tour (flyer above) in MIAMI with some real dope acts.

And as for Lil Wayne. What is new with him? I do not really know. Is he Jesus? Is he in fact Lil'? I think so on the second one. His album The Carter III is out. Look @ his myspace, its really fucking busy, just like other mainstream rappers. Maybe they can feud over that soon, whose myspace has more shit all over it. BUT BUT BUT I like these songs, so get em NOW! Help! samples The Beatles.

You had me at 'Danger'

After finding Danger a few months ago, it was love at first listen. I mean, I just love this guy. He's new, exciting and well, the music speaks for itself. He has yet to disappoint!

Danger - 11h30
Danger - 00h00 (ft. Vyle)
Estelle feat. Kanye West - American Boy (Danger Remix)
We Are Scientist - Chick Lit(Danger TV Remix Edit)
BoysNoize - NeOh!Pen (Danger Remix)
Sébastien Tellier - Divine (Danger Remix) (Highly Recommended)

If this isn't enough to whet your appetite, check out his myspace* page.

Indie WTF

Alright, so 'Indie' music generally bores me, BUT, people eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper (a small meal that can only be had after dinner... its an english thing. look it up). Usually when I'm looking for music, I browse over indie after a quick listen. No offense, I like more upbeat stuff, and most indie makes me want to nap, and I am highly anti-nap (comments on napping?).

These two bands...groups...what have you, break the nap-inducing mold, so I felt I should expose them to you. Jupiter I found on discodust (where I generally dont get ANY music, but they hit the mark with these cats). I dont know anything about either of these bands, but they sound good.

The Kabeedies are also from Euroland, and are touring in places I am not too aware of. They sound real good, so you should invest time in listening to their jams, since I did. Plus, I think they like Mortal Kombat (werd).

School's Out Forever

Treasure Fingers, who just recently signed with Fools Gold, teamed up with Kill the Noise (not to be confused with Kill to Win) for the School's Out Forever Tour.

Treasure Fingers & Kill the Noise - School's Out Forever!"

This mix is something they threw together for URB Magazine and I can't tell you how many times I've listened to it. It's 60 minutes of Cut Copy, Para One, Chromeo, Sinden, Boys Noize and the list goes on and on.

Check it out you wont regret it.

Hahahaha: http://www.myspace.com/killthenoise Damnnnnnnnnn Mami!

What A Crook(ers)!

Crookers is a duo of maniacs from Italian world. They are ugly as far as I can tell from their myspace, go there and decide for yourself. They also have tour dates, but you hipsters probably spent all your money on a trip to bonaroopalooza or a New York fling to make it to them. ANYWAY, they make some good fucking music. A style unto themselves. They are not really crooks. Or are they? I dont do research like I intended, I just post my opinions on here. Think...bible. All you need to know is...ugly people make good music (Meatloaf and Queen are my other instances).

Top Top Top Top Top, TOP BILLIN (2)

I've been sitting on this AMAZING bmore compilation from some of the best out there for about 2 months. Now that ive played the shit out of them, I think its time I give you all the hotness to bang in your convertible (hah).  Check out more and more at the TOP BILLIN MYSPACE

I love pretty much all of these, except Sweat Gunz, but im not god, so whatever! Here is some more hipster ish for Orlando dj's to lift from my hard working blog efforts (I got this from my friend).  I highly recommend all of these, they will make you bump, shake, boink, whatever!

Hands Up Pics, 6.6.08

This is Lennon, one of the coolest cats in Orlando. He's out every single Friday, and he wears awesome shit like this shirt. He also writes a very eclectic blog, so check it out at foundvinyl.net

Some music sounds GOOD, some sounds the same

Diplo is one hell of a producer. He is always on the cutting edge of the hot shit. One of these tracks he once again just is all over Daft Punk, and the other sounds very Crookers to me, but thats a good thing. New Diplo, take it.

The other tracks by The Bloody Beetroots sound the same as eachother. Maybe that is because most of their shit sounds alike. However, they sound pretty good, and if you wanna bang you head, fist, or girlfriend, these songs are perfect. take 'em.

Flight of the Conhords

I decided I am going to start writing about shit that I don't particularly like on this blog. Some people seem to just fucking ADORE Flight of the Conchords. I however, do not. There is just something about the way they go about things.

Sure their New Zealanders accents are fancy, and they  strum on their guitars, but why should I really care? It isn't all that funny. The humor almost seems so original and abstract, that it has a feeling of non-originality. Maybe if there was only one of them, or they both died, I would find them funny, in a classic undiscovered artist sort of way. So before you go around falling in love with these South of the Equator comedians, remember I hated them first...and they probably are descendants of English prisoners (murders, thieves, ya know the like)

That was some free publicity.

Here we go again

So here is some hip(ster)-hop. These are some new tracks from the new Cool Kids cd, The Bake Sale. I have been bumping these tracks in my car. They are Cool Kids you love, but ya know...newer. They continue to make fun music with a fresh take for 2k8. Then I've got a few Kid Cudi tracks for yall. One he rhymes over the new N.E.R.D. track, the other he shows you that Cleveland swag.

Pick these up, because you're not lame.

Cut Copy

Since the release of "In Ghost Colours," (Album of the Year? Yes) I haven't been able to listen to anything but Cut Copy. Seriously it's fucking ridiculous.

But, leave it to Boys Noize to release a remix of "Lights and Music" that makes an already awesome track even more irresistible.

Cut Copy - Lights & Music (Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix)
Cut Copy - Lights & Music

Oh and the Midnight Juggernaut's remix of "Hearts on Fire" aint too shabby either.

These tracks are doper then that cheesy (hehe) shirt. Hands Up!... bringing you the flyest in music.

Britain's Most Offensive Artists

They've been major players in the scene for nearly two years now, but if you haven't heard of "Does It Offend You, Yeah?" by now you are sure to be hearing a lot about them in the future. Consider DIOYY to be the next Bloc Party (except hopefully they'll release a sophomore album that's actually good).

The sound of DIOYY floats around in the realm of Justice/Beetroots electro while putting even more focus on live instrumentation than Digitalism. I should say this now:

THIS IS NOT AN ELECTRO HOUSE SUPREME BANGERIFIC ALBUM.

This is a quality indie rock album with an electro twist. You will not be disappointed.

D.I.O.Y.Y - "Weird Science"

D.I.O.Y.Y vs. Yo Majesty - "We are Clubstars (Bald Eagle Edit)"

Let the Bodies Hit the Floor

Drowning Pool + Hollertronix = Yes.

It'll make you feel better about studying for finals, I promise!

He's got two left feet

Here's some (new?) shit I've been sitting on for a few days. Remember us when you hear these two at the Club.

First up is a Flosstradamus remix of HEARTSREVOLUTION. What's there to say about Floss besides you guys (as in, Orlando) fucking love them anddd I'm convinced that everything they touch turns into Banger Gold.

HeartsRevolution - CYOA (Flosstadamus Remix)

Second, here's a Black Kid's remix by the Twelves. If you haven't heard of either: honestly, where the hell have you been? :)

Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Remix)

Enjoy
