The NEW Hands Up Blog

For those of you who read this blog and live in Orlando:

If you haven't heard by now, we're moving to Hands Up! @ Back Booth to Thursday Nights. Right now K2W is on a temporary hiatus, giving us time to revamp everything that is "Hands Up." One of our biggest changes is that our blog has moved to WordPress! From now on, http://www.handsuporlando.com links to the WordPress version of our blog, so if you have the blogspot version linked into a blog reader or RSS feed, now is the time to change over.

Check out the New Hands Up Blog.

Cool Shit: FL-909

So if you're bored on the internet and you want to try your hand at making beats, you might want to bookmark this website. A German(?) company named aM Laboratory created a Flash-based drum machine called the FL-909. It's a near exact virtual recreation of the Roland TR-909. If you don't know much about electronic instruments, the TR-909 is the quintessential drum machine of house music. This is the machine that started it all, way back in the early 80s. This song by from Daft Punk's Homework is a good example of what a 909 sounds like:

Daft Punk - Revolution 909

Don't get it confused with the TR-808, the most popular sequencer in the Hip-Hop industry. Remember this line from "The Way You Move?"

I know y'all runnin' that 808, can you feel that B-A-S-S. bass.

Anyway, if you want to know more about this kind of shit, feel free to click the links and read the wiki pages. When you're finished with your history lesson you can us the FL-909 and make some stoopit beats in your bedroom. Enjoy!

People READ this blog??

Yesterday I was told my friend Brita that she reads this blog. I've only known her for a week. This is great news to me. PEOPLE READ THIS SHIT! I'm inspired to say some silly shit and post a few tracks that I stole from various other blogs. Here goes!

First look at this video. This song is going to be HUGE in 2007:

Next, lets talk music. I'm a DJ and a blogger, so believe me when I say this: There are no new blogworthy tracks. Music's on the indie/electro front is pretty uninteresting right now. If you don't believe me, listen to this track from Bloc Party's newest album, Intimacy. Yes! New Bloc Party! Shittier than the last Bloc Party!

Bloc Party - Zepherus

Bloc Party has disappointed me too many times now, so I've moved on to other British bands with a black guy in them (i.e: Does It Offend You, Yeah?). Maybe I'd like B. Party more if they made music that sounds more like this:

ABC - How to Be a Millionaire

Tell me, Tell me!

I have no words. People are fucked (or maybe I'm just a prude)

P.S. MSTRKFT's Essential Mix -- kind of old it's from May (yes a month is old in Banger Years) -- is REALLY really good.

P.S.S. The Crooker's Essential Mix aint too shabby either!

"Bad Boys II" is on USA...RIGHT NOW!

credit: The Cobra Snake

I've been busy as hell but here's a few songs I've had on repeat for the past couple of days:

Oh and the other day when I was bored I decided to look up "djs" on Wikipedia and I came across a "Notable Club Disc Jockeys" section. Needless to say, I couldn't believe what I didn't see when I read through this so-called "list" of "notable" "djs."

Where the hell is Kill to Win?!

I Hate the Things You Like: Jim Halpert

Dont get me wrong. The Office is a very funny TV show. Michael, Dwight, Andy, Creed, Stanley, and Kevin insight riotous laughter true to the mold of Seinfeld, or Lloyd Christmas hitting Harry Dunne in the back of the legs with a cane (Dumb and Dumber...). For you more indie kiddies, picturing something Zach Braff did in Garden State.

Back to my main point. I do NOT like Jim Halpert. He carries himself in a 'I'm not cool' sort of way in which he knows very well he is better then anyone else in the aforementioned office. His smirks at the camera say 'no one else could have thought of that aside from the great JIM'. Moreover, girls who like him do so because he is 'cute', but they cannot seem to distinguish between Jim and John (Krasinski).

His pranks are no more then pedestrian office shenanigans that he may or may not have found in a book from Borders entitled Office Pranks and You. His pursuit of Pam (who I don't really care for either) has since grown old and tiresome. I find myself wishing someone would maroon them on the island from Lost, or better yet Gilligan's so I no longer will witness their torrid bore affair. I hope next season Andy looses it, hospitalizes Jim ( NBC/ER crossover episodes?) and puts him out of my misery.

Thoughts? WTF is this, the English Patient?

WALE & WAYNE

Wale, the swaggerific DC rapper who doesn't talk about all the shit he has, but instead about other stuff (go figure) released a new mixtape a few weeks ago. "The Mixtape About Nothing", modeled after Seinfeld boasts tracks mixed by Nick Catchdubs. Each song is named 'The ___" like Seinfeld episodes, and features samples from the show, and Michael Richards being racist. It is a good mixtape, check out more over at Wale's blog, Elitaste.

You can catch him on the Rock The Bells tour (flyer above) in MIAMI with some real dope acts.

And as for Lil Wayne. What is new with him? I do not really know. Is he Jesus? Is he in fact Lil'? I think so on the second one. His album The Carter III is out. Look @ his myspace, its really fucking busy, just like other mainstream rappers. Maybe they can feud over that soon, whose myspace has more shit all over it. BUT BUT BUT I like these songs, so get em NOW! Help! samples The Beatles.
